“The strength of a team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.”

Phil Jackson

It’s been said that people don’t quit their jobs, they quit their managers. First off, YIKES. But also…it doesn’t have to be this way. Below are a few methods fueled by open communication and mutual respect that I’ve used to build happy, engaged and productive teams.
Have Great Expectations
More than anything else, our expectations determine our reality. These are the qualities I strive for with my team, and in turn, my team can expect the same from me.
Keep In Touch!
Good communication boosts morale, engagement, and productivity. As a manager I have regular touchpoints with my team:
Monday Morning Status
Circle back on existing projects and the week’s priorities.
Level Up Meetings
Quarterly get-togethers where we learn about a new skill, technique, or trend that can be leveraged in our work.
Professional Development Meetings
One-On-One meetings to discuss performance and growth opportunities.
Slack And Zoom
In the world of hybrid and remote work, having a quick line of communication and a way to engage – no matter where you are – is incredibly important.
Mindset Matters
I am a firm believer in a growth mindset - that everyone on the team has the ability to grow, learn, and develop their skills and abilities.
When a team has a growth mindset, members are more likely to embrace challenges, support each other, and take an approach to problem-solving that is focused on continuous learning and improvement.
Have Fun
If you’re not having fun – you’re doing it wrong. Fostering a creative and inclusive workplace lets people know that they’re not just a cog in the machine – they’re a human…with ideas, emotions and purpose. Imagine that! To further this sense of belonging, I routinely schedule meet-ups outside the office for us to grow as a team.
